ACOUSTIC POSITIONING
Rigfix - MOD developed Rigfix in the late 80's to meet the
requirement for positioning jack-up rigs over sub-sea structures. The system
is accurate to better than +/-0.5Metre with a system resolution of 0.1Metre.
The unit is operated by MOD in the short baseline mode where on a jack-up
rig 3 transducers are used (1 on each leg). Of the 2 transponders normally
deployed, 1 is designated teh in-use unit and the other as back-up. Method
of operation is that under the control of teh Scout, Transducer number 1 will
transmit to the transponder. The transponder after a preset Turnaround Delay
(TRD) will reply to all 3 transducers. Transducer number 2 and transducer
number 3 then transmit in turn. The Scout will then display all nine ranges
and output them to the computer. The actual output is a three range fix taken
three times, this allows the computer to carry out least squares fixing and
majority voting so eliminating bad ranges due to acoustic interference.
COMPUTER SYSTEMS
MOD owns and operates IBM compatible Pentium computer systems
for precise positioning, navigation, survey data collection, processing, reporting
and charting purposes. A comprehensive suite of compatible programs, developed
in recent years by Ilex
Computing Ltd - in Delphi2 Language and constantly being improved and
updated, form the basis of the MOD PC positioning / processing / charting
system. These programs are supplemented by other more specialised well-proven
software to accomplish specific project tasks. General navigation between
locations is achieved using Meridian ARCS software which superimposes (D)GPS
vessel positions continuously upon a monitor image of a regular navigational
chart.
OTHER SYSTEMS
Marine Offshore Designers also owns and operates the following:
Robertson SKR82 & S.G. Brown Survey North Seeking Gyro Compass, Geodimeter
400 series EDMs, Leica TCA 1000 autotracking EDMs, MEL Colour Scanning Sonars,
Temperature Salinity Probes, Radio Telemetry Systems, Wild T2 Theodolites,
Valeport Current Meters.
